Following last month's shoegazey affair 'Superbike', California-based songwriter, producer and TMR fave Jay Som has revealed the second single from her forthcoming new album Anak Ko. Exploring her funkier side, 'Tenderness' delivers some seriously smooth bass grooves, paired with roomy beats and a shed load of slick guitar work. Lyrically the opposing the track's seemingly light-hearted nature, 'Tenderness' addresses what Melina Duterte refers to as "the curse of social media." She explains, "I have a weird relationship to social media and how people perceive me—as this person that has a platform, as a solo artist, and this marginalized person. That was really getting to me. I wanted to express those emotions, but I felt stifled. I feel like a lot of the themes of the songs stemmed from bottled up emotions, frustration with yourself, and acceptance.” Anak Ko will arrive on the 23rd of August. -Holly Mullineaux
